The 3 Elements of a Creative Outfit
After working with dozens of women on discovering and naming their personal style, one truth keeps coming up:
The more you know yourself, the more meaningful your style becomes.
And the more meaningful it feels, the more excited you are to get dressed.
We can distil personal style down to 3 elements:
one dressy
one casual
one fun
When you look at some of the best outfits, they have a bit of each
jeans + a tee = casual
blazer = dressy
leopard print flats = fun
Yet your brain does something funny when you look at your closet…
Dressy pieces hang out together.
Casual stuff lives in its own little pile.
Fun items are somewhere in a corner waiting for ‘the right occasion’.
So you put outfits together in silos until you’ve repeated this 3-part mix enough that it becomes second nature.
What you repeat becomes intuitive.
Your closet might feel chaotic because you have all these pieces in it, but they rarely meet.
If you take one thought with you from this post, it’s this:
Outfit magic happens when you combine dressy, casual, and fun.
That’s when you see all of yourself in an outfit.
Some of your favourite Pins have this mix:
Each part of the outfit acts as a dial that you turn depending on what you have going on that day (your schedule, how much sleep you got, where the planets are).
It’s what makes a casual outfit feel pulled together.
It’s what makes a dressy outfit feel approachable.
Eventually, you create our own language around these 3 dials.
Mine is elevated, relaxed, current.
For a client last week it was elegant, chill, expressive
This is the foundation of a personal visual identity.
In the Spring Collection, we build yours.
You’ll name it, decide on the details that are part of it and walk away knowing how to turn those dials in a way that feels like you.
